2026–2027 AGE CLASSIFICATION

How Age Groups Work

Players are placed based on their age on July 1, 2026

(Grade levels listed are typical but not guaranteed)

• 18s – Born 7/1/2008 – 6/30/2009 (Typically 12th Grade)
• 17s – Born 7/1/2009 – 6/30/2010 (Typically 11th Grade)
• 16s – Born 7/1/2010 – 6/30/2011 (Typically 10th Grade)
• 15s – Born 7/1/2011 – 6/30/2012 (Typically 9th Grade)
• 14s – Born 7/1/2012 – 6/30/2013 (Typically 8th Grade)
• 13s – Born 7/1/2013 – 6/30/2014 (Typically 7th Grade)
• 12s – Born 7/1/2014 – 6/30/2016 (Typically 6th Grade)
• 11s – Born 7/1/2015 – 6/30/2016 (Typically 5th grade)

11s/12s Placement Note:

Players eligible for 11s may be placed on 12s teams based on skill and development.

Players eligible for 12s will not be placed on 11s teams.

Please Note: Tryouts are listed youngest to oldest, not in order by date!

Early tryouts are available for players who absolutely cannot attend their scheduled July tryout date. We strongly encourage attending your regular tryout, but if that's not possible, early tryouts are the next best option.

All players must register online—no tryout fee refunds will be given.

Before tryouts, you must:

• Register online
• Upload a clear photo (hair pulled back)
• Upload a birth certificate or passport
• Submit the online risk waiver

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the early tryout start time.

You will not receive an offer on the day of the early tryout. Official offers will be sent via email on the tryout day for your player’s age group. Make sure to check the tryout times and be ready to accept your spot!

Create a Parent Account on our website platform.      

     -When prompted, add your player to your account.

    - Upload a clear, athletic photo of your player with her hair pulled back.

Register Your Player for Tryouts

    -The system will automatically prompt you to register for the correct tryout based on your player's information. If your player is young for their grade and you need to register for a different age division, email Tiffany at tiffanyD@katyunited.com

    -If you encounter an error, double-check the birth date entered in your player's profile. If it's incorrect, this could hinder registration.

    -Important: If you wait until tryout day to register, the price will increase.

Complete the Player’s Account Profile Before Tryouts

    -Upload a clear athletic photo of your player (hair pulled back).

    -Upload a copy of your player’s birth certificate or passport.

    -Submit the online risk waiver.

🔴 Accounts must be complete before check-in.

Arrival:

Arrive 1 HOUR BEFORE (15 min before for early tryouts) your scheduled tryout for check-in, vertical testing, shuttle testing, and warm-ups.

• Wear appropriate volleyball attire (a tryout t-shirt will be provided)
• Bring plenty of water
• Spectators are welcome, but must stay upstairs!

Check-In:

Check-in is upstairs, and a parent must be present. Before arrival, make sure your player’s online account is complete, including:

• Uploaded athletic photo (hair pulled back)
• Uploaded birth certificate or passport
• Submitted risk waiver

***Players may not begin check-in, testing, or warm-ups until their account and all required documents are complete

Parent Meeting:

Starts upstairs as soon as tryouts begin. Please do not leave until it ends. If you step out, return 1 hour before tryouts end.

After Tryouts: Team offers will be EMAILED, No Phone Calls!

Accepting a Club Team Offer

• Players attending Early Tryouts or Regular Tryouts will be notified by email on the day of Regular Tryouts. Late Tryouts will be verbal and email offer the of late tryout.
• If your player is selected for a KU team, a team offer will be sent via email shortly after Regular Tryouts conclude. Please check your email frequently, as you’ll have 30 minutes from the time the offer is sent to submit your non-refundable $700 team deposit and confirm your spot.
• We will no longer make phone calls. Offers will be sent by EMAIL ONLY. The process may take a few hours, so continue to check your inbox regularly.
• To confirm your team placement, immediately pay the $650 deposit through the email link. If we do not receive payment within 30 minutes, the offer will be extended to the next player. Payments must be on your account with ACH or Credit/Debit Card ONLY. We DO NOT accept AMEX.
• Players attending Make-Up Tryouts will receive notification the day of their tryout. Offers must be accepted within 24 hrs.

Parents:

We kindly ask that parents avoid trying to get their player’s attention during tryouts. It’s important that athletes stay fully focused on what coaches are asking of them.

In some cases, a KU staff member may want to speak with you about your player. Please stay available so any necessary conversations can happen without extending the tryout time.

We understand that tryouts can be a stressful time for both players and families. Our goal is to make this process as smooth, positive, and informative as possible for everyone involved!

Private and semi-private tryouts are available only for players who absolutely cannot attend the early tryout in June or the regular tryout in July. While we strongly encourage attending your assigned tryout date, these are the next best options. Please note, there are no refunds on tryout fees.

You will not receive an offer on the day of the early tryout. Official offers will be sent via email on the tryout day for your player’s age group. Make sure to check the tryout times and be ready to accept your spot!

If you’re unable to attend regular, early, or private tryouts, makeup tryouts are available. We strongly encourage attending your scheduled tryout date, as we cannot guarantee a spot after tryouts are over. Teams may already be full, or we may only need specific positions. Not all age divisions will have makeup tryouts if teams are full.
